Peripheral nerve pain can have many causes, including nerve compression or entrapment, traumatic nerve injury, surgical injury, scar tissue, and other forms of nerve irritation or damage. Successful treatment begins with determining which nerve is involved and why it is causing symptoms.
At the Peripheral Nerve Center at the Institute of Orthopedics, Spine & Sports, patients receive a comprehensive evaluation based on training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (Physiatry) and Interventional Pain Management, with expertise in both ultrasound-guided and X-ray-guided procedures.
Rather than relying on a single treatment, we develop an individualized plan that may include rehabilitation, diagnostic nerve blocks, ultrasound-guided injections, nerve hydrodissection, radiofrequency procedures, or peripheral nerve stimulation.
Our focus is on providing non-surgical and minimally invasive treatment options for peripheral nerve pain whenever appropriate, including for patients who continue to experience nerve pain after previous surgery. When a nerve condition is better treated surgically, we collaborate with peripheral nerve, hand, orthopedic, and other surgical specialists to help patients receive the appropriate care.
